Are you in midlife? Empty nesting? Have you lost track of who you are? Are you ready for a change? If you want your life to change, you must change how you treat your life! It’s easy to get lost in obligations, responsibilities, relationships, careers, raising kids, etc. No matter your age, if you are here, I’m guessing you are interested in finding your purpose again. Been there, done that. Good news – it’s absolutely possible. You probably have questions about where to even begin and I can help with that!

Being honest about who you are and what you like, being intentional about setting goals, and following through with actionable tasks will set the framework for life change. Limiting self-beliefs and habits keep us stuck in a life we don’t love.

We all NEED connection.

It’s now more critical than ever to seek out support, encouragement, comfort, HELP, and “the like, of others”. When we isolate ourselves in the name of independence and forsake our inherent need for community, we risk disconnection, mental instability, and loss of direction. Community is what connects us to purpose and offers a sense of belonging and hope.

You know the term – Midlife… uhm, what? Crisis? Come on now, it’s not a stinkin’ crisis!!  No one is in imminent danger – though it may feel like it. Anyone, at any age, can experience a temporary loss of direction and purpose, but it can be especially daunting during midlife. I mean, society says we should be fully independent by midlife, oh, and mature too (still waiting for that to happen). Nevertheless, shit has gone down. We’ve been exposed. Life has happened. Experiences have affected us. We know too much, yet yearn for more.

PLAN to find your purpose

Midlife, in particular, is no time to deem your situation as a crisis. You are not in danger – you are seeking change, an enhancement, opportunity, redefinition. How effen exciting!

If you are in midlife, you may have a lot on your plate such as adult children and aging parents, financial uncertainty, aloneness, and/or career burnout. These life situations can cause anxiety, overwhelm you, and cause you to withdraw. Though it sounds liberating to just throw caution to the wind and say “eff it, I’m OUT”, I strongly advise against it. No, no my friend, instead – it’s time to make a PLAN.

I’m here to offer hope. If you were starting a business, my guess is you would sit down and devise a comprehensive business plan to avoid failure, right? It would include an outline of your mission, vision, values, goals, what you have to offer, market/time analysis, success factors, SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats), strategies, implementation plan, financial plan, and budget. Now, doesn’t that sound like a decent outline for a new life plan?

How to stay grounded while working the PLAN?

Find peace in the process. Just because you’ve reached midlife does not mean you are done learning. Maybe you’ve raised kids, reached a sustainable level in your career (or even retirement), and built a full life. Also, maybe you feel like you’ve had your ass kicked in the process. Well, my friend, sit back and enjoy the fruits of your labor. Midlife, or any other time for that matter, is the season for YOU and all the things that give you definition, meaning, joy, and PURPOSE. Write them out. Reflect on them. Be proud of your independence and accomplishments.

Take good care of yourself and your health. Nurture the one and only body you’ve been given with good nutrition and movement.

Stimulate all your senses. Relax to the sounds of a waterfall, keep plants on your porch, incorporate your favorite smells, mix up a mocktail (my favorites are HERE), LAUGH with friends, and most importantly – have FUN (my all-time Favorite eff word) and enjoy independence while remaining connected to your community.

Have fun finding your purpose and live the effen good life!
